Eddy Current Testing

Eddy Current Testing (ET)

ET is an electromagnetic non-destructive testing technique used to detect both surface and slightly subsurface defects in conductive materials. The method generates a magnetic field that induces eddy currents in the material, and any material changes (e.g., cracks, roughness) cause disruptions in these currents, which are detected and visualized by the instrument.

Advantages:

  • No need to remove coatings.
  • Can detect subsurface defects.
  • A clean and fast method.

Limitations:

  • Only applicable to conductive materials.
  • Affected by geometry and surface condition.
  • More complex to perform.
