Visual Testing (VT) – The First Step to Detecting Defects
ven the most advanced testing methods start with one of the simplest yet most effective tools: the human eye. Many defects—like cracks, weld irregularities, or surface wear—can be spotted before they cause failures. But to be reliable, you need more than just “looking at it.”
That’s where Visual Testing (VT) comes in.
How it Works :
Our inspectors carefully examine the surface of your equipment using the naked eye and specialized tools such as magnifying glasses, mirrors, cameras, or endoscopes. This allows us to identify visible cracks, imperfections, or welding issues early in the process.
VT is often the first step in an inspection program and is also used for quality control during and after production or welding.
Advantages of VT
-
✅ Can be performed on all visible surfaces, regardless of material
-
✅ Simple, quick, and cost-effective method
-
✅ Detects obvious issues before they escalate
Limitations to Consider
-
❌ Only detects surface-level defects
-
❌ Accuracy depends on visibility and accessibility
Why Choose HTT for VT?
At HTT, we go beyond a simple look. Our trained inspectors use specialized tools and methods to ensure no surface defect is overlooked. We also integrate VT into a complete NDT program, so you benefit from a structured approach: starting simple, and escalating to advanced testing only when necessary.
